Gazebo Rental Information
The gazebo in Riverfront Park is available for rent. Fill in the application form and submit it to city hall.

Street Art Program
The City of Algonac is looking for interested artists (no residency requirements) to create clever creations from common objects around the city. These “art interruptions” offer passers-by a brief pause, prompting a moment of appreciation, humor, reflection or surprise. The goal of this program is to embrace the artistic talents of local individuals while displaying creative artwork throughout the community. Artists are encouraged to incorporate the character of the surrounding environment and neighborhood into their artwork. There is no cost to apply for the program. Artists are responsible for providing their own materials.

To participate, complete the application/design proposal and waiver and submit forms to IF you're a student, fill out this Student application. The city will contact you once your application has been approved.


Memorial Chair Program
In the summer of 2018, the City retired the Memorial Bench program because all the available spots for memorial plaques were full. In an effort to bring some color and new interest to the Riverfront Park boardwalk, the Adirondack Memorial Chair Program was initiated. Anyone interested in making a donation for a chair with a plaque can complete the application and submit the form to 




Appreciation Programs

Algonac Asset Award -- An Algonac Asset is anyone -a public official, an Algonac high school graduate, a community leader, a concerned citizen, a health or human service worker, a volunteer -who has done something to make the community a better place to live, work and play.

Beautification Award  -- aims to recognize local residents and business owners whose properties reflect pride of ownership and contribute in a positive manner to the overall appearance of the community.

Nice Neighbor Award - The city of Algonac Nice Neighbor program recognizes homeowners who do what they can to improve the quality of life for their neighbors.

New Business Ribbon Cutting -- The city of Algonac wants to draw attention in a big way to your business with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. If you are a brand new business, have new digs, just finished a big remodel to accommodate growth or are offering new services a ribbon-cutting ceremony makes a big splash!

Welcome Home -- We are so excited to welcome businesses to the Algonac family! Our neighborhood is our home and we have a stake in what goes on here. If we can support and help and affirm one another, that can make a difference. In a small way, it can make life better for all of us.

To combat the spread of COVID-19 in Michigan, Governor Whitmer signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order March 23, 2020. For at least the next three weeks, all Michigan businesses and operations must temporarily suspend in-person operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life, and all Michiganders must stay in their homes unless they’re a part of that critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing tasks necessary to the health and safety of themselves or their family, like going to the hospital or grocery store.


  • Go to the grocery store or pick up take-out food.
  • Go to the pharmacy to pick up a needed prescription.
  • Engage in outdoor activities like walking, hiking, running, biking.
  • Go to the hospital or secure any care necessary to address a medical emergency or to preserve your health or the health of a loved one.
  • Fill your car with gas.
  • Return to Michigan to a home or place of residence from outside the State.
  • Leave the State for a home or residence elsewhere.
  • Walk your pets and take them to the veterinarian for needed medical care.


  • Leave the home to work unless your employer designates you as a critical infrastructure worker.
  • Participate in any public gatherings.
  • Visit someone in the hospital, nursing home, or other residential care facilities (with limited exceptions).
  • Go to the mall or to restaurants.


  • Promote remote work to the fullest extent possible.
  • Restrict the number of workers present in-person on the job.
  • Keep employees at least six feet from one another to the maximum extent possible and enabling social distancing for customers who are standing in line.
  • Any other social distancing practices and mitigation measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.

  • SBA Guidance for Businesses and Employers to Plan and Respond to COVID-19

The ZBA will hold a public hearing  to consider appeal 2020-03 regarding constructing an oversize garage. The public is welcome to come and voice their thoughts. SEMCO Gas Main REplacements in the City
SEMCO will be on the following streets beginning in March to replace the gas main:

  • Eckfield Street
  • Algonac Place Townhouses
  • Fruit St from State to Cemetery Rd. 
  • Smith/Stone from State St to Mill St
  • Howard St from State St. to Scout Dr. 
  • Scout Dr from Howard St. to Summer St
  • Summer St from Scout to the southeast about 1000 feet. 

Getting elected to city council
Interested parties need to submit an affidavit of identity and nominating petitions with at least 25 signatures but not more than 40 signatures to the city clerk by April 21, 2020 at 4 p.m. Late submissions cannot be accepted. Nominating packets are available at city hall.

St. Clair County Emergency Management officials are monitoring the flooding situation and are advising residents that the time to prepare is quickly passing. In the coming weeks, the southern portions of St. Clair County will continue to see flood waters rise.
